Potential uses

What homeowners use equity for

Your home secures the loan, so it’s worth having a clear plan. Common uses include:

Home improvements

Renovations, additions, repairs, or upgrades.

Debt consolidation

Replacing higher-cost debts — while understanding that the new debt is secured by your home.

Business needs

Funding for a business you own. Talk with your CPA about any tax implications.

Large purchases

Major planned expenses where a structured payoff plan makes sense.

Emergency reserves

A line available if you need it — you generally pay interest only on what you draw.

Other legitimate purposes

Education, real estate investing, or other goals. Let’s talk it through.

Nothing on this page is a commitment to lend or a guarantee of approval, rate, credit limit, or funding time. HELOC rates are often variable and can change. All loans are subject to credit approval, property eligibility, appraisal, and underwriting. Your home secures the loan.

Loan programs, terms, availability, and eligibility vary by state, lender, property, and borrower profile. Not every program is available in every state. Licensing information.

FAQ

Home equity questions

Straight answers in plain English. For anything specific to you, Alexandro can walk through it.

What is a HELOC?

A home equity line of credit is a revolving line secured by your home. You can typically draw funds as needed during a draw period, and the rate is often variable. It usually sits behind your first mortgage, so your existing mortgage stays in place.

HELOC vs. home equity loan vs. cash-out refinance — what’s the difference?

A HELOC is a flexible line you draw from. A home equity loan is a one-time lump sum, often with a fixed payment. Both keep your first mortgage in place. A cash-out refinance replaces your first mortgage with a larger one. Which may make sense depends on your current rate, how you’ll use the funds, and your plans.

How much can I borrow?

Lenders look at your home’s value, what you owe, your credit, income, and their own combined loan-to-value limits. Alexandro can’t tell you an amount before a lender reviews your application — but he can help you understand the pieces.

How long does it take?

Timelines vary by lender, appraisal requirements, and how quickly documents come together. If you have a deadline, share it so Alexandro can plan around it.

Can I use a HELOC for my business?

Some borrowers use home equity for business needs. Keep in mind the loan is secured by your home. It’s worth discussing the risks with Alexandro — and with your CPA or financial advisor for tax questions.
